Which facial is right for my skin — and when do advanced facial treatments make more sense than another facial? The honest answer is: it depends on what your skin is doing right now, not on what sounds the most luxurious on a menu. A dull, dehydrated complexion, a congested T-zone, uneven tone after a Québec summer, and the first fine lines each call for a different treatment phase — and sometimes for no facial at all, but for something that works deeper. At our facial Montreal and Laval clinics, every visit starts with a free consultation and a free AI skin analysis precisely because guessing is the most expensive way to shop for skincare. This guide walks you through how we match a concern to a treatment, which of the newest skincare innovations we actually apply during a facial, how to tell when a facial is no longer enough for imperfections or deeper concerns, and how our package exchange lets you try microneedling with exosomes, RF microneedling or fractional rejuvenation without buying a whole new program.
“The right facial is the one your skin needs this month — not the one with the longest name.”The IPL Lab skin-matching philosophy
✦ The short answer
Match the treatment to the concern: HydroFacial for congestion and dullness, an oxygen facial for dehydrated or event-week skin, a professional peel or microdermabrasion for texture and tone, PQAge Evolution for early laxity, and V-Bianco for pigmentation. If your concern is acne scarring, deep lines, melasma or persistent laxity, a facial will improve the surface but not the structure — that is when you exchange two facial sessions from your package for one advanced treatment (microneedling with exosomes, RF microneedling or fractional rejuvenation). Classic facials currently run about $110 per session in a 3-pack; advanced sessions start around $250. Every plan begins with a free consultation and AI skin analysis.
Start with the one concern that bothers you most when you look in the mirror — not the three you could list if pushed. Every professional facial follows the same cleanse-exfoliate-treat-hydrate sequence; what changes is the treatment phase in the middle, and that phase is chosen for a specific job. Here is how we match the most common concerns to the treatment we would suggest first:
💧
Hydradermabrasion cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and infuses serums in one vortex pass. It is the first thing we reach for when pores are clogged, blackheads keep coming back, or your skin simply looks tired — with zero downtime.
🫧
Pressurized oxygen carries vitamins and antioxidants into the surface for an immediate plumped, calm finish. Ideal the week of a wedding, a photoshoot, or after a Montréal winter of indoor heating.
🍋
Professional-strength acids chosen for your skin type — lactic for sensitive or first-time skin, glycolic for sun-dulled tone, salicylic for congested pores — speed up cell turnover. Expect mild redness and light flaking for a few days.
💎
A diamond tip resurfaces the outermost layer mechanically. Good for a uniform, smooth surface; it does not reach pigment, scarring or lines, and we never peel and abrade in the same appointment.
🇮🇹
Promoitalia’s stabilized-TCA “no-peel peel” is massaged in rather than left to frost, giving an immediate tightening effect without visible shedding — and it is indicated as non-photosensitizing, so it works year-round.
✨
A layered Italian brightening system built around tranexamic and kojic acids, suitable for all skin phototypes. Results build over a series, and daily sunscreen is non-negotiable or the work undoes itself.
Notice that none of these is “the best facial.” They are different tools for different jobs, and your esthetician will often recommend a rotation — a HydroFacial to clear congestion, then a peel series once the surface is calm — rather than a single answer.

A professional facial works on the epidermis, the living surface of your skin. That is exactly why it is so safe and so pleasant, and also exactly why it has limits. Being clear about both is the fairest thing we can do before you spend a dollar:
✅
Deep cleansing and extractions · dullness and dehydration · mild congestion and blackheads · surface roughness and flaky patches · uneven tone from mild sun exposure · the “glow” and softness that make makeup sit better · maintenance between advanced treatments.
⛔
Remodel collagen in the dermis · fill or flatten atrophic acne scars · erase established wrinkles · reliably clear melasma (carbon peels can even worsen it) · lift genuinely sagging tissue · treat active medical skin disease such as cystic acne, rosacea flares or eczema.
The American Academy of Dermatology notes that sagging, deep scars and severe wrinkling do not respond well to peels — and the same holds for every treatment that stays on the surface. If your concern lives in that second column, a facial is a wonderful supporting act, but it should not be the headliner.
The most interesting change in the rejuvenating facial treatment over the past few years is the arrival of regenerative-inspired topical actives — many born in Italian and Korean laboratories — inside the treatment phase. At IPLLAB every one of these is applied topically, never injected, and we choose them by concern:
🧬
Short amino-acid chains that signal skin to behave younger. The best-studied and most reliable actives on this list, and the backbone of our peptide and skin booster treatments.
🔬
Cell-derived vesicles carrying growth signals. Early evidence is promising but young, and no exosome product is approved for injection in Canada or the US — which is why we use them strictly topically, most effectively right after microneedling. An enhancer, not a cure.
🇮🇹
Our deluxe exosome option, an Italian professional complex reserved for our microneedling protocol when you want the richest post-needling serum layer.
🐟
The Korean “salmon DNA” ingredient, used topically for hydration and a calmer, plumper look. Note that it is salmon-derived, so not vegan, and far milder than injectable PDRN skin boosters given in medical settings.
🧪
Poly-L-lactic acid in a professional topical formula that supports firmness at the surface. It is the same molecule as injectable PLLA collagen stimulators, but a completely different procedure — we never inject it.
⚡
A coenzyme central to cellular energy, now formulated into “skin longevity” serums. Research on topical NAD+ is at the earliest stage; we treat it as a promising booster, not a miracle.
One honest caveat that applies to all of them: in Canada, a topical product with appearance claims is regulated as a cosmetic. These actives elevate a professional facial — they do not replace a medical treatment, and anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling. That is also why, on their own, boosters are not what we suggest for a structural concern; the needling, laser or radiofrequency underneath is what builds collagen.
There is a moment most of our long-term clients recognise: the facial still feels wonderful, the glow still shows up, but the thing you originally came in for has stopped changing. That plateau is information, not failure. Here are the signs we watch for at your follow-up:
None of this means you chose the wrong facial. It means your skin is ready for the next tier — and the good news is that you do not have to start over to get there.
Yes — and this is the part of our program clients most often tell us they wish they had known about sooner. If you have bought a facial package and your consultation or follow-up shows a concern that needs more than surface work, you can exchange two facial sessions from your package for one session of an advanced treatment. It is a way to try microneedling with exosomes, RF microneedling or fractional rejuvenation with the credit you already own, guided by the same esthetician who knows your skin, instead of committing to a full new series blind. Your esthetician confirms the exchange at your consultation, and whatever sessions remain in your package stay yours for maintenance between advanced visits.
Microneedling with exosomes — for texture, pores, early lines and overall skin quality. Sterile single-use needles create controlled micro-channels that trigger the skin’s own collagen response; topical exosomes (or polypeptides, PDRN, PLLA, NAD+, or the Italian V-Tech complex) are applied immediately after to improve comfort, recovery and skin quality. Expect pinkness for 24–48 hours, three to six sessions four weeks apart, and improvement that builds over months. The needling is what builds collagen; the booster is the enhancer. Full details on our microneedling page.
RF microneedling — for laxity, acne scarring and deeper texture. Insulated needles deliver radiofrequency heat into the dermis at set depths, tightening as well as remodeling. It is the step we suggest when “firmer” is the goal along the jawline, neck or cheeks. In October 2025 the FDA issued a safety communication about RF microneedling devices; the dermatology community’s response is that outcomes depend heavily on the device, the settings and the training of the operator — which is exactly why we discuss the FDA communication openly at consultation and why this treatment starts with a patch test. Read more on our RF microneedling page.
Fractional rejuvenation — for established scarring, sun damage and lines. Fractional laser treats a grid of micro-columns while leaving surrounding skin intact, so healing is faster than full resurfacing. At IPLLAB, ablative fractional (CO2) resurfacing is delivered by a partner clinic as part of our Imperfections Deluxe Glass-Skin package rather than in-house, and it carries the most downtime of the three — typically several days of redness and peeling. It is the option for concerns that have not responded to needling, and it is always quoted after a consultation, never from a menu. Our fractional resurfacing guide explains what to expect.
Which of the three you try first is a clinical decision, not a pricing one. Texture and pores usually start with microneedling; laxity with RF; established scars and sun damage with fractional. All three are cosmetic procedures with real recovery windows, and all three come with the same honest rule as our facials — if you are not a candidate, we will say so.

If you have never had a professional facial, the idea of a stranger examining your skin under a bright light can feel more exposing than relaxing. We know. Our estheticians are trained to guide first-timers gently, at your pace, and nothing touches your face until you understand what it is and why. A first visit looks like this:

Facials and advanced treatments at IPLLAB are sold in packages, which is what makes the two-for-one exchange work: the credit is already there. Current package prices are below (promotions change — confirm the latest at your free consultation or in our facial packages store):

In practice, a classic facial costs about $110 per session in a 3-pack and drops to $80 per session in a 10-pack, deluxe Italian facials start at $150, and advanced treatments begin around $250 — which is why two classic sessions exchange cleanly for one advanced one. Members save further on treatments and products through our membership program. Facials and cosmetic treatments are considered esthetic services, so they are not covered by RAMQ or most private insurance.
Honesty first: a facial is not for everyone, every day. Here is when we will postpone, adapt, or send you elsewhere:
Because we sit between a spa and a medical-aesthetic clinic, and we use that position on your behalf. Every recommendation begins with a free consultation and free AI skin analysis, so the facial you get is chosen from measurements rather than a menu. Our estheticians are trained on each system described here, from Canadian, German and Italian professional lines to Promoitalia’s PQAge Evolution and V-Bianco, and on the topical exosome, PDRN, PLLA and NAD+ boosters we apply. Most importantly, we will tell you when a facial is the wrong tool — and let you exchange the sessions you already own for the right one, guided by the same person who has photographed your skin from day one. You will find us in Montréal’s Plateau and in Laval, both with easy parking, and both starting every skin journey with a free, no-pressure consultation and AI skin analysis.
